SMASH THE BOX: The Interview

Mashing genres such as dub, punk, acid, techno and electro pop Smash the Box is an awaiting discovery of talent that you should dive in and get a sweet tooth for especially with the trio behind it having rather successful careers in music individually.

Consisting of members Arianne Schreiber, Marc Dolley and Nerdy Frames interviewee subject D-R-U-N-K, Smash The Box gives your manufactured pop bands a run for their money especially with Arianne’s penetrating lyrics and of course the lad’s production values with the arrangement and unique to new instrumentation layering.

You want the complete package? Sure……they got it with Arianne Schreiber’s beauty and her lovely Japanese, inspired sense of style as well as being the front women is a good start and yes she does regularly cosplay in Anime fanfare so much so that she even sung on the popular cult anime Evangelion.

Their Single ‘Addicted’ has been nominated “single of the month” in DJ magazine’s July issue!

Bringing you the exclusive interviews is our game so we got to talk to all 3 of them and really got into the crux of SMASH THE BOX!

Marc Houle: The Interview

(PHOTO: Yonathan Baraki)

Marc Houle is a techno producer maverick from Windsor, Ontario. Canada who shares the same birthplace as Richie Hawtin, one of electronic music’s prime legends and most innovative producers of our time. With Canada and Detroit being nearing neighbors, the new sound of Detroit’s techno became an influencing factor especially for Marc.

Coupled as well with Marc’s love for first generation video games, Chicago House and New Wave, there is no doubt those elements can be heard in some of his music from what I’ve listened to prior to this very interview.

Being a former signee to the MINUS label, he along with friends Magda and Troy started the offshoot Item and Things which was a sub for MINUS until they broke away in order for them to direct it towards their interests.

Another reassuring thing about Mr. Houle is that he didn’t start off (like so many) as a DJ and currently keeps to that credo preferring to let his music speak!

A new single with him and Miss Kittin is currying our favor on that blasted Itunes thing and so we got to talk to Marc Houle on all things music and Items…other way around.

Rush (Original Mix)-Emotion EP *FREE Download*

Techno, anyone? That’s right. Techno, baby. Techno! You’re in for a treat if you’re ready for some hard-hitting, big-synth-having rave music. All the way from Cleveland comes Apollo, who recently served up two hot and sweaty dishes called “Waves” and “Rush”. The former “Waves” is truly a hard production of epic proportions. This kind of track can only truly be experienced I think when you’re in a crowd of thousands. And “Rush”, while having some characteristics of “Waves”, is a bit more geared to the club. Both are extremely worthy. Enjoy them both below, keeping in mind “Rush” is a free download for anyone who wants it. Which you do.
