DESCRIPTION:
Much lauded Japanese producer Hideo Kobayashi returns with his stunning third album, the appropriately named ‘Underground Business’…
Hideo Kobayashi has been a core part of Japan’s electronic music scene for almost two decades now and has, over the years, become one of the most respected DJ/Producers around. His broad tastes and true versatility have seen him established both as a renown techno producer and as a gifted deep house artist, he has lived on the US west coast as well as in his native Japan and has immersed himself in the underground music scenes wherever he has gone. As a DJ he has traversed the globe playing at venues such as Moxa (Italy), Egg (UK), 360 Club (Dubai) & Stadium (Jakarta) as well as every leading club in Japan. His productions with studio partner Jerome Sydenham under the Nagano Kitchen moniker gained international respect and acclaim when released on Sydenham’s highly respected Ibadan label and his solo albums for the APT International label have been landmark releases in Japanese electronic music.
Now Kobayashi is back with a much-anticipated third album, the stunning ‘Underground Business’. The LP is build around 10 tracks and very much sees the producer returning to his techno roots with a selection that is aimed squarely at the floor. From the relentless and intense opener ‘Snow Monkey’ it’s clear that Kobayahsi means business with album and it’s easy to see why he has built such a following with techno’s A list DJs. The album has a rolling, percussive feel throughout and though firmly rooted in techno there are certainly influences from Kobayashi’s deep house past, especially with the excellent ‘Dica’ and hypnotic ‘High Life’. Fast and furious ‘ZX1200-A1’ is a definite highlight for those who like an intense audio experience and closing track ‘Mori’ has a delightful tribal feel to it that provides a fitting ending to a great album.
‘Underground Business’ makes few concessions as a home listening album, but rather delivers a standout selection of intense dancefloor orientated electronic music that perfectly showcases the abilities of this outstanding producer, enjoy!
